Some “Art of Noise”

These are a few frames from my exhibition “The Art of Noise.”

Jim Flora was part of the vanguard of great LP cover designers of the 1950s and ’60s. This frame features six of my favorites.

Max Richter’s Sleep unfolds over 8 hours, and is physically contained on 8 CDs and one DVD. In an exhibition celebrating the tangible aspects of music, such a monumental box set deserved its own display.

In 1978, David Byrne and Jimmy De Sana collaged 529 life-sized close-up Polaroids to create the album cover for Talking Heads’ More Songs About Buildings and Food. In 2010, I visited the actual collage on display at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University (as part of the exhibition The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl) and did my best to blend in.

Internet celebrity cat Lil Bub put out an album in 2015, Science & Magic. There was no earthly way I could prevent this from becoming a part of my music exhibition the following year.
