xoom.com (little x) was a provider of free Web hosting in the late 1990s – early 2000s. In the year that I worked there, xoom.com became very popular due to the meme of a man named Mahir, whose xoom page enthusiastically proclaimed “I KISS YOU!!!!”; merged with Snap.com; got bought out by NBC Interactive; and had the plug pulled in 2001.
I don’t remember exactly how one earned xoomPoints, but they asked me to design the logo. It had to look good large, but also legibly scan at 16 x 16 pixels. And the starting point had to be the existing xoom logo (a simple black X in a circle). Below are the nine runners-up…
